Punky Manor - Vintage Stock Car - Tribute Build

To-Do List...

Seems like I stepped away to get ready for winter and a New Year slipped in when I wasn't looking. It seems like the cold weather moved in fast and work on the race car slowed down quite a bit over the Holidays.

But the desire to work on the Tribute race car never seems to go away. I am still searching for a Big Block Ford engine so I can start re-fitting body panels.

I am a very visual person by nature. Some people are ok with writing out words on a To-do list and going from there. I start to wonder what things are actually going to look like on my projects and then move on to develop a visual plan. This process gives me time to think about "how" I intend to do certain things, basically to develop a working plan in my head.

Luckily I have a "few" years of experience with the Adobe PhotoShop program, and winter has sent me indoors. Initially it started out with an exploration of how I was going to build the tubular rear bumper support, then it evolved into an entire ghost chassis race car image.

First step was to find an image I could tweak a bit. I found a nice side view image of a 1972 Gran Torino Sport. I then resized it and increased the image quality.

Then I covered over the chrome trim...

Then added the yellow portion of the paint job...with black pinstripes.

Then added the aluminum covers over the side marker lights and the door latch hardware...of course it needed rivets as well. I also found an image of some Hoosier Tires and some proper racing wheels.

Next up, I placed all the decals, primary sponsor and the number I designed a while back.

I decided one more element might be a nice addition, the internal components. I actually had a 1/24 scale Super Stock model car chassis sitting here, so I photographed it in the right orientation and superimposed it inside the car. After adjusting the transparency of a few elements, I had a complete image.

So, it ends up being a fun image, but what does it actually do for the project. Personally, I asked at least a hundred questions while I was creating these renderings. It allowed me to create a more concrete plan for the next steps. I can focus my attention on what I have to do in the near future.

The most logical thing to do next would be to locate an engine. I do have a line on a couple of engine options, hopefully something will fall into place soon.

Take care for now.
