Punky Manor - Vintage Stock Car - Tribute Build

Parts Hunting - Part 1

Spring has arrived and it's time to come out of hibernation and get busy once again. Several other winter projects have kept me from posting on my Blog recently, but hopefully I will be back to posting on a more frequent basis.

I have mentioned in past Blog posts the long list of parts that I needed to locate before I could really "start" the Tribute race car build. Finding parts for a 45 year old car has proven to be an interesting process.

In a previous post I discussed finding a set of doors nearby where I live. The doors have been stripped of all excess weight (unneeded sheet metal), paint, and then sanded and primed. I was also able to find and refinish the passenger side fender extension. But a lot more parts are needed.

Last fall I was finally able to connect with a gentleman who had many of the remaining body parts that I needed. The only problem was that he was in Tulsa and I am in the Twin Cities! So we made plans to meet up in Kansas City to pick up the parts.

The list of parts that he had was as follows: both front fenders, a GTS hood with air scoop, passenger side rear quarter, rear splash pan, passenger side headlight bezel, and the 4-speed shifter mount floor section. The best part of this package was that it cost me about what other people wanted for just the hood.

It's off to Kansas...

Load up, and head back....

We did take a bit of a detour on the way back. We decided to stop at the James Farm (birthplace of Jesse James) in Kearny, Missouri. Took a little tour and a few photos.

Here are the parts in all their 45 year old glory!

Now that the nicer weather is here again, the fun part begins! All of these parts will go through the same process that I mentioned above. I will cut off any of the extra sheet metal that is not needed on a race car. I will then strip as much of the old paint off as possible. They will then get a coat of primer while I hunt for additional parts.

Another large piece of the puzzle was located back in January....but I will cover that in my next post! Take care.
